Indeed it was between the plunging granite walls of this very ravine that the Urner prople are said to have entered into a pact with the devil.
Although there are countless legends about the Teufelsbrücke (Devil's Bridge), no one really knows how it came by its name. A hellish ravine and a heavenly valley - what a wealth of contrasts! Nowhere else can you come as close as this to two such extremes at the same time. Here at the heart of the Alps, at the watershed of Europe.
