The Brienz Rothorn Railway

The Brienz Rothorn Railway, Switzerland's oldest steam cog railway, has climbed Rothorn Kulm (2244m) hissing, huffing and puffing since 1892. Try conquering 1,678 meters of altitude differential and 25% gradient without getting short of breath! Six tunnels and and two galleries make for a thrilling change during the ride.

The reward for the ride is a spectacular mountain panorama, the hospitality of the Rothorn Kulm Hotel and a wide selection of incomparable hikes.

The Brienz Rothorn Railway station is in Brienz (15km from Interlaken), near the railway station.

How to get there:
by train: from Lucerne or Interlaken
by boat: from Interlaken East
by car: with highway A8, exit Brienz

Opening hours:
The railway runs regularly from June until mid October
May and second half of October: reduced timetable
