Kramgasse 49, Bern, Switzerland
Located on Kramgasse, a lovely street that contains many old houses, Number 49 was the former apartment and workplace of one-time Swiss patent office clerk, Albert Einstein. It was here, in 1905 and at the age of 26, that the world famous physicist published his "Special Theory of Relativity." A bar and restaurant is situated downstairs, beneath the apartment.
Bundeshaus
Bundesplatz, Bern, Switzerland
The two assemblies of the Swiss Parliament Federal Assemblies are housed in this Italian Renaissance structure known as the Federal Palace. Witness Swiss democracy at work during a guided tour through the Council of the States and National Council debating chambers. A fabulous mural of Lake Luzern can be seen in the parliamentary chambers.
Kornhaus
Kornhausplatz 18, Bern, Switzerland
Located on Kornhausplatz, this 18th century granary has been converted into an alpine beer hall. The large, stately structure also features an arcade and a restaurant whose specialty is smoked meats and sauerkraut.
Matte
Bern, Switzerland
This lively neighborhood, which is located along the Aare River and features narrow row houses, was once home to the city's laborers. Tiny shops are sprinkled throughout this lovely old district and a flea market is held every third Saturday from May through October. Long ago, a unique dialect known as "Mattenenglisch" was developed and can still be heard today.
Nydeggbrücke

This 80 foot high bridge spans the width of the Aare River, featuring beautiful views of the region along the river and the forested areas that tower above it. The central stone arch of the bridge is 180 feet long.
Rathaus
Rathausplatz 2, Bern, Switzerland
This medieval structure, the seat of the Bern Municipal Council, is the legislative assembly of the city of Bern along with the Grand Council, which is the legislative assembly of the canton. It was originally built in 1406-07 and has been heavily renovated throughout the years. With its covered porch and double staircase, it typifies the architecture in Bern.
Zytgloggeturm
Kramgasse, Bern, Switzerland
This famous landmark, the city's oldest building, was Bern's western gate during the years 1191-1250. It is the focal point of the town with its tall copper spire and enormous astronomical clock and calendar. Since 1530, a whimsical puppet show is presented at four minutes before the hour. Painted mechanical bears, jesters, and emperors stage a mini performance. Tour the inside of the clock to view its inner workings.
