Shania Twain

Shania TwainThe famous country singer lives in a manor near Montreux in French-speaking Switzerland with her husband and producer, Mutt Lange. Born Eilleen Edwards in 1965 in Ontario, she began singing in homes for the aged when she was just eight years old. In 1984, she sang in the group Longshot before leaving for Huntsville, Ontario. A producer took notice of her in 1991 and took her to Nashville, and the following year she recorded her first album, Shania Twain.

Nashville is where Twain met producer Mutt Lange, who soon became her companion. He suggested producing songs that she had written, and bought out Shania Twain's contract. This close collaboration generated two new albums: The Woman in Me in 1995 and Come on Over in 1997. With over 11 million copies sold, this last album brought Shania Twain international acclaim and a nomination at the American Music Awards.

The singer currently lives with her husband on the shores of Lake Geneva, at La Tour-de-Peilz, in a large 19th-century manor, which they purchased after the sale of their New York property. She enjoys it so much there that she has decided to learn French, promising that she will be able to hold a conversation in French by the end of the year 2000. The couple works and records new albums in a studio in Montreux, not far from their home.
