In terms of infrastructure, Switzerland is ideally equipped; three of the four stadiums to be used have already proven themselves during championships. Zurich’s stadium is being rebuilt and will be dedicated in autumn 2007 during the “World Class Zurich” track and field meet, and then turned over to the championship operation. There is no other essential construction of infrastructure planned in Switzerland. The existing facilities suffice for the high requirements of the EURO 2008.
The Federal Council’s strategy to emphasize the use of public transport during the EURO 2008 has proven to be correct, as recent experience in Germany during the World Championship has shown. During the EURO 2008, Switzerland seeks to achieve a so-called modality-split (share of public transport in relation to motorized private transport) of at least 80% in regional transport and at least 60% among paying visitors in long distance transport on match days. The combination ticket has already been put into place. The stadium ticket also functions as a ticket for the entire Swiss pubic transport network for a period of 36 hours.
