The typical Appenzell village of Stein is the home of the Appenzell Showcase Cheese Dairy.
From a spectator's gallery, the modern process of cheesemaking can be comfortably watched, and for those who would like to taste the Appenzell cheese, there is a restaurant with cheese specialities in the same building.
Right next to the Appenzell Demonstration Dairy there is the Appenzell Folklore Museum, with live demonstrations at the loom and on the embroidery machine, and cheese-making in the cow-herd's hut.
